The proud history of Leicester Children’s Holidays charity

The Leicester Boys’ Club was formed by Lady Rolleston and her husband in 1896.

In 1898 the Leicester Poor Boy’s Summer Camp Association was founded. The first group of boys went camping at Mablethorpe in early August.

Girls joined the holidays in 1900 for the first time, in a purpose-built wooden building. The boys continued to sleep in tents.

In 1908 the Boys’ home was built in Mablethorpe, next to the girls’ home.

The children from the county of Leicestershire began to go to Mablethorpe from 1951.

We celebrated our Centenary in 1998.

2017 was the last season of children’s holidays in Mablethorpe. Around 67,000 children have enjoyed a special time there over the years.

During August 2018, the first set of children were taken to the Hilltop Outdoor centre near Sheringham on the east coast. We also introduced our new logo and website.

During 2013-2018, 57% of children nominated were from Leicester and 43% were from Leicestershire and Rutland.

All the current children nominated for our special holidays are aged 8-11, boys and girls.

It costs the charity £391 per child for the holiday. This includes the transport, meals, accommodation, pastoral care, lots of fun and adventure activities including special moments on the beach.

Every child deserves a holiday. With your help we will continue to support families across Leicestershire by providing high quality children’s holidays.

Our target is to send 80 children on holiday next August 2020. We need your help to raise £31,280.
