WHEN DAVID WALLIAMS MET ONE OF THE WORLD’S BEST JOCKEYS, RYAN MOORE
Watch as David Walliams and young actor Billy Jenkins go behind the scenes at the races and meet Champion Jockey Ryan Moore. This is the third instalment of ‘Horsing Around’, a series of comedy sketches to promote the sport’s Under 18s Race Free campaign. The two stars feature in five short episodes showcasing a brilliant day out at the races, which is enjoyed by six million people each year.
Following on from the success of the first two episodes of the series, Britain’s Got Talent judge Walliams reprises his role as Jenkins’ ungainly father in episode three, ‘Horse Drivers’ as the pair enjoy a day at the races. Unaware of Moore’s status as one of the world’s best jockeys, Walliams immediately causes awkwardness by asking the three-time British Champion where they can find a decent jockey, much to the embarrassment of horseracing whizz Billy.
Speaking of the campaign, David Walliams said; “I really think the Under 18s Race Free campaign is great. So often kids’ days out can be expensive for the family so this could be a fun and different day out for everyone where kids go free. There are a lot of fun things children can do at the races, so it’s great to be part of a campaign to educate families.”
Ryan Moore said, “My kids love David Walliams so I knew that there would be trouble if I didn’t get involved in the filming with him. I think this is a great initiative and it’s so important that we get more children and families involved in the sport and coming racing.”
‘Horse Drivers’ is the third of five episodes that are being released across the summer racing season as part of Great British Racing’s campaign to promote the sport’s unique Under 18s Race Free offering. The campaign draws attention to the more than 200 racedays up and down the country taking place over the school holidays, including over 50 dedicated family racedays. Under 18s are admitted free of charge, when accompanied by an adult, to the overwhelming majority of racedays where they can experience the thrilling action on track, as well as a range of free additional activities including pony rides, the chance to meet a racehorse and fairground attractions - making it a great and affordable day out.
Rod Street, Chief Executive of Great British Racing said, “We are really pleased with the reception the Under18s Race Free campaign has had so far and it’s brilliant that someone as high profile in the racing world as Ryan Moore has come on board to help us get the under 18s free message out there. The summer holidays are now only a few weeks away and, with 50 dedicated family fixtures and more than 200 racing events in total, now is the time to be planning your family’s trip to your local racecourse.”
