Skinny Jean Gardeners launch campaign to get kids into the garden this summer
According to new research, traditional activities such as ‘freestyle’ play, building dens or bike riding are no longer favoured childhood pastimes as they once were, as a third of children will spend most of their summer holidays watching TV and playing computer games. Watch our inspirational video where The Skinny Jean Gardeners, who have their own Youtube channel and are regulars on CBBC’s Blue Peter, talk about the campaign and offer their tips on how to inspire kids into the garden this summer.
A new survey released in time for the school holidays shows the popularity of playing outside even during the summer holidays is in decline.
With obstacles to outside play including parents being unwilling to let their children get mucky or to engage in creative play outside without constant adult supervision, Homebase has launched a new campaign, ‘Room to Grow’ to inspire kids to put down their phones and iPad’s and get into the garden this summer.
The Skinny Jean Gardeners, who have their own YouTube channel and are regulars on CBBC’s Blue Peter are supporting the campaign and have created a series of inspirational and how-to videos, including how-to build a tee-pee and how-to paint a plant pot using vegetables.
Watch the Skinny Jean Gardeners videos to be inspired this summer and give your children their own ‘Room to Grow’.
