MIRIAM O’CALLAGHAN LAUNCHES CLIONA’S FOUNDATION CHARITY CHRISTMAS APPEAL 2015
Today little Lucy Kennedy, aged 7, is a picture of health, racing around with her new best friend, Miriam O’Callaghan. It’s hard to believe that she when she was just a baby Lucy faced the greatest battle of her life – a potentially deadly brain tumour. Thankfully she fought her way back to full health, and Irish charity Cliona’s Foundation were with her every step of the way – that’s why Miriam is urging the Irish public to dig deep and support Cliona’s Foundation this Christmas.
Cliona’s Foundation is the only Irish charity that supports families with a critically ill child with non-medical expenses, such as helping out with transport costs to get to the hospital, or helping cover the mortgage if Mum or Dad has to take time off work.
Patron Miriam O’Callaghan said: “Few people realise how expensive it can be to have a child in the hospital. Transport costs, child-minders for sisters and brothers at home, even parking fees can all add up. Families often find themselves in a situation where either mum or dad has to take time off work, which makes the problem even worse. This is where Cliona’s Foundation steps in.
“Founded by Terry and Brendan Ring in memory of their own daughter Cliona, Cliona’s Foundation is the only Irish charity helping families with often crippling non-medical expenses. Christmas is obviously an extra tough time for families in difficulty – please help by donating today, and posting our Christmas 2015 Appeal video on your social media pages.”
To support Cliona’s Foundation’s Christmas Appeal text CLIONA to 50300 and donate €2 today (VAT may apply on some mobile networks, minimum of €1.63 goes to Cliona’s Foundation).
Lucy Kennedy, aged 7Cliona’s Foundation helped the Kennedy family when Lucy, now seven, was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Mum Pauline said “Cliona’s Foundation helped us out in the very early days of Lucy’s treatment when things looked very bleak. We were terrified, and just so grateful and humbled by Brendan and Terry and everything they do. In the early days when Lucy was sick I didn’t care whether the bills were being paid or not, but life has to go on, and the costs of having a child in the hospital can really mount up.”
