The BANANAGRAMS Challenge is back – and bigger!

After a hugely successful first year, The BANANAGRAMS Challenge is back and bigger than ever! Open to twice as many schools in 2016, The BANANAGRAMS Challenge is a nationwide search for the UK’s Top Banana – the only official UK BANANAGRAMS tournament for schools.

Aiming to attract 1000 competing schools, the free-to-enter Challenge will see around 30,000 children aged 7-11 years old (from school years 3, 4, 5 and 6) ‘Go Wild With Words’ as they play a series of BANANAGRAMS games with classmates. Through a simple process of elimination, each school finds its champion, or ‘Best of the Bunch’ who then competes in a range of online word-based games – built around the Key Stage 2 spelling lists – for one of 12 places at the Grand Final in London, in April 2016. The eventual winner will be crowned Top Banana 2016 and will win £1000 for their school, while all finalists receive a BANANAGRAMS Goodie Bag crammed full of fun.

As part of its mission to get children playing with words, BANANAGRAMS has launched the Challenge to help boost vocabulary and spelling skills in classrooms and after-school clubs across the country. Each school to register receives a FREE BANANAGRAMS Challenge Welcome Pack worth over £40 – this provides the teacher with everything they need to run their school’s Challenge, including two BANANAGRAMS games.

“The first BANANAGRAMS Challenge was a monumental success, with over 15,000 schoolchildren taking part in the UK,” comments Rena Nathanson, Bananagrams’ CEO. “We decided to double the size of the Challenge in 2016 as it’s our tenth ‘bananaversary’ – what a perfect way to celebrate! BANANAGRAMS was created to help kids play and have fun with words, and the Challenge is a brilliant way of encouraging this. I can’t wait to meet the finalists and crown the 2016 Top Banana.”
