Prince’s Teaching Institute Announces Extension into Primary Sector

The Prince’s Teaching Institute (PTI) is today delighted to announce its expansion into the Primary School sector.

The launch of the PTI’s official two-day residential for primary school headteachers, comes after many years of requests from teachers, asking for the charity’s activities to spread to the primary sector.

The focus, as with all the PTI’s activities and courses, is to enhance and enrich the quality of subject teaching. They will also develop an ethos and culture of high aspiration for all pupils and provide effective professional development for primary schools teachers and headteachers.

The initial idea was piloted in October 2014 at the inaugural Primary Residential Conference attended by 13 headteachers from schools across the country.

Bernice McCabe, Co-Director, PTI said: “With 500,000 school children, and 10 per cent of schools, now benefiting from the PTI’s work, we are thrilled to be moving into the primary sector, following on from our successful pilot Residential last October. The new Primary School Residential and Leadership Programme aims to build on the PTI’s already successful secondary school model, connecting teachers and headteachers with a network of schools and the opportunity to explore other approaches to school leadership.”

Dame Alison Peacock, said: “I am delighted to be working with the PTI to develop this initiative. We aim to support primary headteachers as they seek to embrace the demands of the new national curriculum and enhance the range and quality of subject knowledge amongst their staff.  I anticipate that demand to engage in this initiative will be high, as school leaders recognise the imperative to  engage in professional learning of the highest calibre, to enable colleagues to teach to strengths and further develop subject specific pedagogical expertise.”
