Mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain with Red, White and Blue Day 2015
In the 75th anniversary year of the Battle of Britain, Red, White and Blue Day is inviting schools to sign up to commemorate and celebrate the “few” to whom we owe so much.
Each school that takes part is provided with free tailored lesson plans and specially created films on the Battle of Britain. They will be given a welcome pack with a range of different fundraising ideas and activities.
Patty Wallis, the project manager for Red, White and Blue Day wants to make 2015 bigger and better than ever: “We had more than 600 schools take part in RWB Day last year, the biggest one to date. This year we will all be remembering those who fought in the Battle of Britain, as well as those who had to live through it. Many thousands of school children were evacuated during the air raids, so we’ll be looking at how they lived during this terrible time.”
RWB Day is a national fundraising campaign for schools, run annually by the three national Service charities; ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. On Friday October 9th school children are invited to come to school dressed in red, white and blue clothing, and donate £1 in support of Service families.
Last year, hundreds of schools from across the country took part in activities and fundraising for this truly worthy cause. Castle Camps Primary School in Cambridge said: “We held a RWB Day event inviting children and their families to school for breakfast. We also invited Army personnel from Carver Barracks to spend time with the children and the whole day was enjoyed by all.” Other schools held cake sales, wrote poems, created posters and staged performances to make the most of the event.
