Half Term work experience at GSK

As students return to the classroom this week after half term, many will be making decisions on which subjects to continue with at A Level. However, could many of our young minds be making crucial decisions about their educational future without really knowing what they want to do later in life?

To help young people get a clearer idea of their potential futures, a work experience programme has been taking place at manufacturing and research sites run by GSK to immerse young people in working environments that could open up to them if they choose Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – so called STEM- subjects.

The programme has qualified to be accredited by Industrial Cadets, set up by education charity EDT, which encourages businesses to offer opportunities for young people to get an insight into how they operate.

GSK is a company that sees the importance of this sort of work experience. Their involvement is part of their commitment to supporting the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians. The  programme is now the largest multi-site accredited work experience programme in the Industrial Cadets calendar; something they hope will encourage more young students to see a future in STEM subjects and the opportunities they offer.
