Stratford-upon-Avon leads charge for national celebration of Shakespeare Week

The home of Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon, will be leading the nation in a celebration of the world’s greatest playwright especially for children when Shakespeare Week 2015 begins on 16th March. Launched by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, the campaign is joined by museums, galleries, theatres, libraries and heritage attractions across the UK, taking part in the fun with cultural events and creative activities for families.

Here’s how the celebrations are shaping up in Stratford...

Shakespeare’s Birthplace
Visit the house where the bard was born and explore the workshop of his father, the glove maker. There’s even chance to make your own glove puppet inspired by some of Shakespeare’s most famous characters.

Hall’s Croft
The home of Shakespeare’s daughter Susanna is the location for making fairy masks based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Take to the stage as Puck, Peablossom, Mustardseed or Titania to act out lines from the play.

Anne Hathaway’s Cottage
Help to create a Forest of Arden in the gardens of the thatched farmhouse where Shakespeare wooed his future bride. Use colourful craft materials to create some of the flowers mentioned in Shakespeare’s plays and have a go at matching them to their Tudor names – pauncies, dafadowndillies and dazies.

Harvard House
Astrology is one of the richest sources of imagery in Shakespeare’s plays. Workshops invite visitors to make and decorate suns, moons and stars in one of Stratford-upon-Avon’s most striking Elizabethan townhouses.

Mary Arden’s Farm
The home of Shakespeare’s mother becomes the set of Theseus and Hippolyta’s (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) wedding for one week only. Perform with master puppeteers and meet the lion with the quiet roar and a donkey called Bottom.

All family activities take place daily throughout Shakespeare Week (16-22 March), 11:30am to 4:30pm. Activities are free with ticket entry. Pricing details for all attractions can be found here www.shakespeare.org.uk/visit-the-houses/plan-your-visit.html#prices_and_opening_times
