Follow the Adventures of Fionn the Foot!
National Walk to School Week takes place from May 12th-16th
Join Fionn the Foot, Green School's mascot on an adventure around Ireland to persuade people of the power of the foot! Fionn will be travelling (by sustainable means, of course!) around the island, stopping off at scenic spots, towns and villages and hopefully meeting lots of would-be-walkers along the way. It’s not hard to miss this giant yellow Foot and anyone who spots Fionn can send us photos or tweet using #FollowFionn.
National Walk to School Week 2014
This year over a thousand schools across Ireland will take part in An Taisce Green-Schools National Walk to School Week. The week is a country-wide initiative which will result in students, their parents and teachers walking to and from school, to celebrate the environmental, health, social and financial benefits of active travel on the school journey.
The week will also be an opportunity for schools to learn about all the benefits of other green travel options on the school journey such as cycling, Park ‘n’ Stride or carpooling as alternatives to the car.
Cara’s Dream to Walk
Schools are also being asked to consider supporting Cara Tighe, WOW (Walk on Wednesday)Girl 2014, in her dream to walk to school. Cara is a First Class pupil in Ardkeeran NS, Riverstown, Co. Sligo and has cerebral palsy. Cara is determined to realise her ambition of walking to school with her classmates and is undergoing weekly physiotherapy sessions to help her do this. Monies raised by schools through sponsored walking events will go towards the cost of Cara’s physiotherapy.
