This September marks the 485th anniversary of The King’s School being re-founded by Henry VIII in 1541 and the school is in an excellent place to celebrate.
King’s is an independent day school with just over 840 pupils, aged 3 to 18, steeped in the values and history of Gloucester Cathedral but delivering a rounded, modern education. The ISI Inspection Report states that the quality of pupils’ academic successes and personal development is excellent – the highest possible achievement, and their Good Schools Guide review heralds King’s focus on 'the whole child' and their 'less pressurised' environment, with parent advocacy riding high. King’s have been awarded Independent School of the Year by SoGlos Lifestyle Awards not once but three times. The school is clearly doing something right.
On top of outstanding academic results, musical recitals, concerts, productions, and art and design exhibitions, it has been an exceptional sporting year at King’s. Chief among these sporting victories was the historic triumph of the 1st XV rugby team, who secured the national Continental Tyres Schools Vase at Twickenham. Beyond rugby, the 1st VII netball team won the Collegiate Netball 7s Plate Final and the 1st XI cricketers reclaimed the Cathedral Cup and were Southwest Regional Champions. A clean sporting sweep!
King’s students develop a genuine love of learning during their time at this 'all through school'. This begins with the nurture provided by the separate pre-school and reception classes in Little King’s and runs all the way through to Upper Sixth, housed in a recently redeveloped Sixth Form Centre. This is achieved by offering stimulating and engaging lessons in small classes and encouraging children to discover their own talents and interests; the range of co-curricular activities in sport, music, performing and creative arts - supported by clubs, trips and enrichment opportunities - is varied and truly inspiring.
