Last chance for President Trump

Visit the Museum this February half term for a last chance to grab a selfie with our statue of President Trump and to get creative – or scientific – with our workshops and events.

The statues of Matilda Wormwood and President Trump, which arrived in the Museum in October 2018, were commissioned as part of Matilda 30 – a nationwide celebration marking 30 years on from the first publication of the story. A survey asked the UK public how they imagined Matilda’s life in the year 2018, including who they thought she might be standing up to, having memorably faced down Miss Trunchbull in the original story. The overwhelming public choice was President Trump.

We’re now waving goodbye to the President who’ll be moving on after World Book Day on 7 March. Matilda herself will remain with us, as celebrations for Matilda 30 continue throughout 2019.

This February half term, join us for a week of activities inspired by Roald Dahl’s childhood and school days. Make a tuck box, an old-fashioned school badge, or dream up the best chocolate bar ever and design a wrapper for it. There’s also rhyming mischief with poet Neal Zetter, as well as marble mazes and model car racing with Science Oxford.

On our February Scoff’n’Stroll, take a guided walk around the countryside that inspired Roald Dahl, listen to extracts from his country almanac My Year, then get stuck in to a delicious Sunday afternoon tea in the Café.
