Community support helps deliver new bike shed for Lea and Garsdon Primary School
Lea and Garsdon Primary School has unveiled a new bike shed, created with the support of local businesses and the school community to encourage more children to cycle and scoot to school.
The project was led through the school’s PTFA and brought together support from Build It, which helped provide materials, and local business TEC Landscaping, which donated the labour and installation to complete the project.
The new facility was officially marked with a photo opportunity at the school on Wednesday 30 September, attended by pupils, representatives from the businesses involved and the school’s new headteacher, Emma Williams.
The project forms part of the school community’s wider efforts to improve facilities for pupils, encourage active travel and make the most of local partnerships and support.
Emma Williams, Headteacher at Lea and Garsdon Primary School, said:
“It has been wonderful to see the local community come together to support the school in this way. The new bike shed is a fantastic addition for our children and families, and we hope it will encourage more pupils to cycle or scoot to school where they can.
“Supporting healthy, active habits is an important part of children’s overall wellbeing, so we are extremely grateful to everyone who has helped make this project possible.”
Barry Kingston, Branch Manager from Build It, said: “We were really pleased to support Lea and Garsdon Primary School with the project. It is always rewarding to be able to help with something that directly benefits local children and families, and it is great to see the finished bike shed in place.”
Tom Church, owner of TEC Landscaping, said: “As a local business, it was really important to us to support something that would directly benefit children and families in the community. We were very happy to donate the labour and installation for the project, and it’s great to see the bike shed now in place and being used.
“Hopefully it will encourage even more children to cycle and scoot to school and will be something the school can benefit from for years to come.”
The completed bike shed provides pupils with a dedicated place to store bikes and scooters during the school day and gives the school an improved facility to support active travel.
The school hopes the project will encourage more families to consider cycling or scooting for shorter journeys where possible, while also showing what can be achieved through collaboration between the school, PTFA and local businesses.
