A South Asian Family Dance Show comes to Harrow Arts Centre for an exclusive run!
Following a highly acclaimed run at Polka Theatre, Harrow Arts Centre (HAC) welcomes Akademi, and their ground-breaking South Asian dance show to Harrow for an exclusive run of just two days!
They will be enthralling family audiences up and down the UK with their popular show Plastic Drastic Fantastic, in a newly announced national tour and will debut at HAC on Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th October at 11am.
This contemporary family dance show, devised by Akademi’s Artistic Director Subathra Subramaniam, takes young audiences and their families on a journey through the world of plastics through the form of dance, gestures, and play. The story explores humanities complex relationship with plastics, shedding light on the fantastic possibilities they offer, as well as the drastic consequences they pose to the planet. After the show Akademi are also offering a special family workshop which explores the fascinating properties of plastic through movement-based play, learning classical South Asian dance forms to tell a story and co-create a unique dance sequence.
The show aims to be a hopeful and stimulating piece for the younger generation and their families. Shedding light on the urgent need to reconsider how we use plastics. It is also highly accessible for D/deaf young people and children, the performance includes sensory cushions that respond to the music and sounds, which audience members can interact with. On Sunday 8th October, the show will be a relaxed performance, specifically designed to be an open and welcoming environment for those audience members who may enjoy, or benefit from, a more relaxed performance style.
Plastic Drastic Fantastic promises to be a vibrant yet thought-provoking piece – encouraging children and their families to explore to complex relationship humanity have with their environment and how they can help to protect it.
