Free educational workshops over the summer at Explore Learning
Parents wanting to seize the summer holiday and assure their children stay up to speed with their progress at school can sign up to any number of the free summer writing and maths workshops put on by Explore Learning. To help counteract the ‘summer slide’ that many students experience over the holiday period, Explore Learning will be hosting a series of free workshops in their centres across England and Wales on 24th August, covering everything from telling time to reading comprehension.
These sessions will develop new skills for kids while enhancing those already mastered at school and are suitable for children aged five to 14. All non-members are also welcome free of charge at any centre near you.
The workshops running on the 24th of August are:
- Telling the Time: we will help you on your way to understanding the big and little hand, becoming a master of time! For children aged 5-7, running 12-1pm.
- A Squire’s Journey to Knighthood: join us in the medieval times as we help you on your quest to become a grammar knight! For children 5-6, running 1.30-2.30pm.
- Put a Spring in your Step: jump straight into this comprehension workshop and learn some fantastic skills that you can apply to any text you read. Can you help us predict what will happen next? For children aged 7-9, running 3-4pm.
- Piece of Cake: join us for a fun day at the maths bakery, as we divide up our favourite treats to help you master fractions and decimals. For children aged 9-11, running 4.30-5.30pm.
Charlotte Gater, Head of Curriculum at Explore Learning says: “Children need to relax and enjoy the summer holidays, however they are always opportunities to continue learning. Offering these workshops can help kids combat the ‘summer slide’, where at least two thirds of children fall behind during the holiday break. Unfortunately, the break is too often a missed chance to seize the summer by learning more, nurturing self-esteem and making lasting friendships with other kids.”
