The Russ Devereux Headlight Project launches it’s Turn Blue Monday Bright Campaign as it celebrates 3 Years of the Project….

‘Blue Monday’ as it has become known is the third Monday in January and is a day where it is said there are most absences from work, days off school and generally people are just feeling low following Christmas and might be struggling with their mental health.

This year Blue Monday is 17th January and The Headlight Project wants to turn this day from blue to bright (orange) with its awareness campaign.

The idea is to make everyone feel happier but also to acknowledge those down days and what we can do to make ourselves feel better and how important it is to talk about why we may not be feeling good. We are asking you to dress up in Orange, or something bright, for work, do a physical activity, make cakes, sing & dance, get together with work colleagues or friends…it’s entirely up to you what you do! All we ask is that you share some pictures with us on social media with the hashtags #turnbluemondaybright, #RDHP and tag the Headlight Project, @theRDHP. Let’s turn those news feeds bright too!!!

Catherine Devereux, founder of the Charity, said “The overriding aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of mental health issues. We want to help as many people as we can, who may be feeling down and give them a reason to smile that day! It would be a reminder to us all that when you are feeling down there are always little things you can do to feel better and importantly, we be open about our feelings and seek help when feeling down becomes something worse.”

Everyone who participates will receive a well-being tips sheet and the charity will be posting on social media throughout the day.

Suzanne Julian, fundraising co-ordinator at The Headlight Project, said, “If we raise funds from the day too, it would be fantastic and every penny would go towards the vital work the charity does. We would suggest a donation of £1 for dressing up at work. However, any fundraising is entirely down to you and not a condition of taking part. Businesses can just support our hashtags or share on their social media.”

A number of local primary schools that work with the Charity, are also taking part. They are planning things for the day that the children can do, like in Art, drawing bright pictures, playing music during lessons, dancing and exercise, and uplifting reading throughout the day. The charity is providing all of the children with orange wristbands as a reminder of the day too.
