Make a splash at Salthome!

Make a splash at Salthome!

It may be cold and rainy but staff and volunteers at RSPB Saltholme, the popular nature reserve near Stockton-on-Tees, are urging visitors both young and old to get their waterproofs on and enjoy the outdoors this Welly Season.

Visitors of all ages will find lots to see and do at the nature reserve during February and March; from puddle jumping in the welly splash, splodging in the mud pit, trying out the brand new mud kitchen or enjoying all of the amazing wildlife that can be found at Saltholme.

Craig McNeil, Saltholme’s Visitor Experience Officer said: “During the winter it’s so tempting to just stay at home, all cosy in the warmth but there are just as many reasons to get wrapped up and head outdoors.”

Learn about what work is done in wellies at RSPB Saltholme by following the welly trail around the Discovery Zone or put on your detective hat and discover what animals also play in the mud in the brand new animal tracker workshop on 22 & 23 March.

Craig added: “We have a number of great ideas planned for Welly Season and need your help. If you have any old wellies you no longer need (doesn’t matter if they have holes in), we would love to rehome them to craft welly sculptures and to create some really fun outdoor games.”

There’s so much to do at RSPB Saltholme this Welly Season, so make a day of it and head to the reserve to have some fun in the mud, whatever the weather.

RSPB Saltholme is open 9.30am – 4.00pm every day in February and March. Visitors can also follow the reserve on Facebook and Twitter.
