Pupil wellbeing is the key to success at Slindon College

Slindon College offers a specialist learning environment for pupils who may struggle to fulfil their potential in independent and mainstream settings. Pupils at the school are all encouraged to be aware of what they can do to support their wellbeing.

A new initiative, ‘Learning Energy’ has become a key part of the day-to-day educational environment at Slindon College. Learning Energy’s purpose is to enable pupils to access learning support strategies and allow them to feel calm and comfortable when their energy levels are too high or too low.

Mental Fitness Lead at Slindon College, Mark Robson, said: “When pupils’ Learning Energy is ‘just right’ we have found it increases their classroom confidence, helps engagement in learning, improves academic progress and positively impacts wellbeing. Our Mental Fitness Team runs weekly, termly and annual activities, events and initiatives to help embed Learning Energy into our culture.”

As further support, a new Sensory Snug, as named by the pupils, has been opened at Slindon College. The Sensory Snug has additional tools available to assist pupils to self-calibrate their Learning Energy and the area has become a dedicated space for pupils before and after exams.

Slindon College won the 2024 ISA Excellence and Innovation in Mental Health and Wellbeing award and holds a Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools Silver award.
