FUNharmonics: Stan and Mabel and the Race for Space

Stan the dog and Mabel the cat are troubled by how animals are treated in their city. Captured and sent to the School for Wild and Dangerous Animals, they’re forced into jobs – but soon hatch an epic escape with their animal friends. Will they find a safe place to call home?

Presented by Polly Ives, this lively, interactive hour-long concert in the Royal Festival Hall features music by Paul Rissmann and words and illustrations by Jason Chapman. Designed for audiences aged 5+ and their grown-ups, it blends storytelling with live orchestral music to create an engaging, family-friendly experience.

The fun begins from 10am with pre-concert activities. Families can see and hear orchestral instruments up close in ‘Meet the Orchestra’ sessions, try their hand at woodwind and string instruments in ‘Have a Go’ workshops, and join a sing-along to learn audience participation songs. Plus, a free activity sheet, packed with games and puzzles, adds an extra layer of fun.

Pre-concert sessions are available to concert ticket-holders only and are subject to availability. Age restrictions apply to ‘Have a Go’ sessions.

Sunday 17th May 2026, Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.

Concert: 12–1pm and activities: 10–11.45am.
