Enjoy Free Family Activities at IWM London this half term
Explore IWM London this May half term and enjoy a week of free, fun-filled family activities and storytelling that bring history to life. Across the museum, you’ll uncover powerful human stories and discover how conflict has shaped lives from the First World War to the present day.
In the Dazzle Design Studio, you can learn how the Royal Navy transformed its ships with bright, bold patterns known as ‘Dazzle Camouflage’. These designs created clever optical illusions that confused enemy submarines. Create your own dazzle patterns by decorating a paper ship, then put it to the test with lightboxes, telescopes and periscopes.
Visit Beauty and Destruction: Wartime London in Art, a free exhibition, where you can discover how artists used paintings to tell the story of London during the Second World War. Explore the paintings, spot surprising details and complete a free 'stamper' trail as you explore the exhibition.
On Tuesday 26th May, families are invited to meet their We Were There volunteers. These eyewitnesses and veterans will be sharing personal stories of living through conflict, offering families the opportunity to hear history firsthand.
