Review: A book a striking history and adventure, it is impossible not to get sucked into its seemingly unlimited pages and to see the story in your imagination. The book cover is misleading, as this story is not about football but about the Romans. Seth and his friend Nadiya take a normal trip to London but not all goes to plan. The ghosts of the ancient slaves that worked on the arena in London have come back to haunt the cities dwellers. Seth leads an adventure to make them disappear. I enjoyed this book.

I liked this book because I like history and Romans especially. This book was easy to read, and I liked how the story linked into real historical events.

Review: This book is full of rainforest facts, for example about the creatures and plants that live there, in addition, there are Angry Birds in the background providing more facts (through speech bubbles). The book tells you that lots of trees can be up to 1000 years old and some animals in the rainforest can not be found anywhere else in the world. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at it, as I love wildlife and nature and I learnt lots of new facts. This book would appeal to everyone, even if you don't know much about Angry Birds.

The book is divided in to parts of the country - with a useful map at the front.  It has all sorts of details - including ski-ing in the Alps, history of the northern coast (WW2), sporting opportunities (e.g motor racing in Le Mans). I have been to France before but I didn't know all about its history and surroundings. It was an interesting book and there were lots of pictures and short paragraphs to dip in and out of.

By Kieran Crowley
 | Publisher: Macmillan Children's Books

Noah longs to be a professional footballer - and playing in the Schools' World Cup qualifiers might be just what he needs to get scouted. But when he's banned from his school team for something he didn't do, all his dreams are in doubt.

With best friend Stevie on tactics, and the skills of some unlikely new teammates, he's soon ready to take on the world - just as long as no one plays foul. BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: This book was about a boy called Noah who was an amazing footballer.  Noah (AKA The Mighty Dynamo) really wanted to play in a winning team in the tournament, so that he could be part of the World Cup. However he had been banned from his school football team because of a fight (that he didn't even start), so he decided to bring together a mismatch of boys and girls for his winning football team. He is the captain, and his team is successful - winning the tournament, despite the cheating of his old team and lots of hard work and team playing.

I was gripped by this book. I couldn't put it down! It was funny and the author had an amazing style of writing. It was very easy to read. I liked the players profiles and the happy ending.

The Game (Outcasts)
By David Grimstone
 | Publisher: Hodder Children's Books

Self-named The Outcasts; Jake (Dealmo) and his friends Kellogg, Lemon and Fatyak like to spend their spare time playing role playing games. But things are about to get a little more interesting ... as the group sit down to play Destiny, a brand new RPG, they realise that this is no ordinary game. What they really have their hands on is the ancient Pandora's Box, containing superpowers for each of them. BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: Jake is the main character with a thoughtful personality and a clever brain. Jake just loves board games and when he buys another game called “Destiny”, his friends all moan, but he persuades them to play it with him.

When they opened the game, they found out that they were all given magical powers. Jake was a sorcerer and his friends powers included stealth, medical knowledge and ultimate strength. However all was not as it seemed, there was a dark side to the game, it was cursed. There was another player who had the power of invincibility and ultimate strength and he wanted them all to die.  One night an attack happens on one of  Jake’s friends and they all rush to help. It is then when they realise that the powers of the game are cursed and they smashed its pieces and all the curses were destroyed. This book was easy and read, and I like the style of writing.

Review: This book is about a boy called Noah, he and his friends go out every night to a tangled, untamed part of the town they lived in and played. Noah and his friends named this place 'The Wilderness' as it was home to millions of bugs and birds. So when a 'for sale' sign appears in the grounds of the Wilderness, Noah must act to save the place they played in and where all the wild animals and insects lived. With all the animals of the Wilderness relying on Noah, he sets up a compaign to show  that the Wilderness is a wild place that should be treasured and loved. The finale of his campaign is when he runs to the town hall to where building plans where being held, and the decision is made to save the Wilderness. I liked this book as it was jam-packed with wildlife and action. I also loved the information at the back of the book, e.g how to make a wild fire and how to create a wildlife pond.

BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: I enjoyed this book because I am really into the 'How to Train a Dragon' series, and I already have a few of the them. I didn't  have this one so I dived straight into it and finished it in two days!

Furious is the dragon that wants revenge on humans, for making dragons become slaves many centuries before. He has an army that includes all of the species of dragons, except the ones that are loyal to the viking Hiccup and his  band of friends.

The main character is Hiccup who needs to fight the war against  Furious and his dragons. Hiccup does not want to not kill the dragons, instead he wants to make peace between them and end the war not in battle but in a peaceful talk with Furious. After much adventure and some hiccups(!), Hiccup makes the final speech and at last the war is over.

I loved the shiny cover and the texture of it. It was bumpy like dragon scales. I couldn't put the book down because it was so incredibly exciting.

The Tempest (Short, Sharp Shakespeare Stories)
By Anna Claybourne
 | Publisher: Wayland

A powerful storm, a dramatic shipwreck, an enchanted island, a sorcerer's daughter and a handsome prince... Read on, through magic and mystery, to discover the spell-binding story at the heart of The Tempest, one of Shakespeare's best-loved plays. BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: Like Macbeth, this book was written as a story rather than a play. It has magic, mystery and lots of bickering characters. There were lots of fact and tips (like in Macbeth) and I found these helpful. I found the names of the characters hard to pronounce but I liked the spirit Ariel and the monster Caliban. They were fun! I did not find this story easy to understand, it seemed quite complicated.

Macbeth (Short, Sharp Shakespeare Stories)
By Anna Claybourne
 | Publisher: Wayland

Is this a dagger I see before me...? A power-hungry general, his crazed wife, three interfering witches and some terrifying ghosts... Discover the gripping story of Macbeth; one of the world's most famous tragedies.

The age-appropriate text in Short, Sharp Shakespeare Stories: Macbeth introduces readers to the play by re-telling the story in modern English. It's an ideal introduction to Shakespeare for children of 9 and above, and perfect for fans of the Tony Ross and Andrew Matthews series Shakespeare Stories. BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: This book was a adaptation of a famous Shakespeare Play. The book was written as a story with chapters, rather than a play with acts. There were lots of facts and tips in the book to help you understand the Macbeth story. This storyline was basically everyone stabbing each other in the back! It did not have a happy ending and lots of people were killed. I could see the moral of the story was not to be greedy and jealous, and to be true to yourself. The book was easy to read, I just think the story of Macbeth is strange and complicated.

The Double Axe
By Philip Womack
 | Publisher: Alma Books Ltd

Stephan must race to save his family from a terrible fate and find out what really lurks inside the labyrinth...You think you know the story? Think again. BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: This book was based on Theseus and the Minotaur. It  was about a prince called Stephan who was the heir of Crete and the son of King Minos and an evil priestess who wanted to rule the world. When Stephan and his sister Ari find the double axe (a legendary weapon used by their ancestors) Stephan goes into the labyrinth to  rescue his younger brother Aster from the evil Priestess Myrrah.

I found this book quite difficult to get into but once I had started reading it I could not stop thinking about the plot and the characters. I would recommend the book to 9 years - 11 years old who like legends, history and adventure.

Review: This book is about a boy called Sam and a robot called E. In this story, a new boy Eddie Ingalls, comes to school with another robot called SS-1OK. Eddie Ingalls and his dad are trying to make Eddie the most popular boy in school. The most popular boy was currently Sam as everyone loved E. Review: This book didn't appeal to me at first because of the front cover but as soon as I opened the book I knew I would love it. This was because I loved the map at the front and the writing style was easy to get into. It is about a boy orphan who meets a band of orphans who lived in an abandoned hotel and named themselves the Band of Blood. They save the city from some kidnappers and a old army of people calling themselves Vigils. These people wore gauntlets , capes and raven masks. I would recommend this book to boys and girls who liked adventure and some mystery.

Ben and Fee soon discover the truth when they uncover a dastardly plan masterminded by a South American businessman... BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: This book is about a boy Ben and his sister Fee. They have lived most of their lives on their Mum and Dad's submarine, which they use for marine science (their parents are famous marine scientists). Their parents were looking for a school that would suit Ben and Fee. They found the 'School Ship Tobermory' and thought that was just the one where their children could learn to be sailors. Ben and Fee both made friends on the floating school and learn useful skills incl. climbing rigging & opening sails and were also extras on a film. I liked this book because of the descriptions which made me smile and also the drawings which made me use my imagination even more. I also liked the adventures that the children had, their way of life and the marine animals they encountered.

BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: On this occasion we are reviewing Aubrey and the Terrible Yoot by Horatio Clare. This book is about a little boy called Aubrey who tries to rid his dad of a small but very effective thing - this effective thing called itself the Terrible Yoot! The Terrible Yoot  kept coming to make Aubrey's dad not feel well, it made him feel weak and miserable. Aubrey and his new animal friends from The Rushing Wood set out in a hopeful quest to stop such a terrible creature.

In his adventure Aubrey find that the Terrible Yoot was actually a living thing like you and me who did not enjoy the world as much as we do. I like this story and I especially liked the illustrations of the animals. They were very well drawn.

Queen Victoria's butler is hatching a plan that could DESTROY the British Empire . . . and only Mel has the power to stop him! BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: I liked this book because of the different monsters that were found but weren't at all scary. There are the main characters Mel and Eve who are friends with Viorica (she is a vampire) and they save Queen Victoria by stopping a demon butler killing her. This butler was trying to become king. He was trying to make everybody in the palace have 3D robots. The robots would be controlled by him so he could take over and kill Queen Victoria. This book was full of good description and images of the characters poking their heads in and out of the pages, this made the book come to life.

Review: I jumped for joy when I saw this book, history is my favourite subject and we are just starting this topic at school! I liked the layout of this book. There were at least three pictures on each double-page making this book easy to look at. The description and information on the pages are very interesting and also easy to dip in and out of. I learnt lots of facts, for example, the sea battles had always had at least 4 ships involved. There would be about 500 or more sailors that would help during a bombardment. The British convoys were in grave danger from the German submarines commonly known as U boats.

An evil man named Bone Shaker and his dreaded skull army is trying to take over the wild lands and heroes from all over history have come to help (e.g. Samurai, Ninjas, Celts, Viking and then Trick Hope from the modern times!). Review: THIS BOOK IS EVEN BETTER THAN THE LAST BOOK IN THIS SERIES!!!!!!
Remembering Jake, Nanoo and Kella I was amazed at how they had settled into the Dark Horse (which is the space pirates ship captained by granny leather head) and how Jake became unwanted at papa dons illegal space-port.  There are many subplots in this book which makes it full of excitement and I was unable to put the book down!

The story was set in wilderness and deserts with quite of lot of sand!  The sun thief was a young boy around the age of 10 years, he was told to make a model of Nefertiti's head but he thought there was something suspicious going on , a plot to rob a tomb! He was correct.  This book was one of my favourites!

The World of Norm: 1: May Contain Nuts
By Jonathan Meres
 | Publisher: Orchard Books

Review: This book got my imagination running. I thought it was going to too silly and not entertaining but I was wrong! It was a silly book and it made me laugh out loud. Norm said lots of funny things (usually every two to or three sentences) . He does silly things as well but they were normal things that me and my friends might do (not all of the things though, for example going on a long bike ride when your bike brakes don't work). I liked the pictures because the illustrator had drawn them in a style I liked, and it helped me imagine what Norm might look like. Thanks.

Review: The title of this book wasn't very appealing but when I read the first few pages I was suddenly absorbed by the book. It is about two brothers and two sisters. They are trying to find treasure and their parents! Their parents had mysteriously disappeared whilst looking for the treasure.  Whilst on their search for treasure, the children meet a few obstacles including an army, some pirates, sharks and jungle animals. I really enjoyed this book, it would appeal to both boys and girls.

Review: This book was about sword that had been stolen by some vikings. The heroes Arthur and Finn  (modern day boys who have been put in an ancient enchantment and transported back in time where they are given a task to right a wrong), went on a quest to find and recover the sword, and capture the culprit. The sword was called the 'blood hunter' and viking warriors believed that the gods had made it to help them in battle. The sword was decorated in jewels and was very valuable. I really liked this book because it has lots of action in it.

Review: This book is another action book. I can't wait to read more of this series. Its about Arthur and Finn (modern day boys who have been put in an ancient enchantment and transported back in time where they are given a task to right a wrong). This time Arthur and Finn have been transported to Haxeley Castle in the Middle Ages. They needed to save a beautiful girl who would one day be queen. The girl had been kidnapped John the Withers.

Review: This book is part of a series, this is book 5. There are lots of different characters and subplots and the book is well written.   I think it would better if you had read some of the eariler books as sometimes it was difficult to understand the plot. I got a bit confused at times. This book would suit anyone 9+, who likes books about adventure and secret code breaking.

Review: I give this book 10 out of 10. I liked the way the author chose the names of all the space ports, ships, and all of the characters. Nanoo, ISS Colossus are examples. The author had a good sense of humour for example, naming an illegal space port papa-dons, it was funny because the main character said it as papadoms (poppadoms)!! I did not find the title of the book very appealing, but once I started the book, I couldn't wait to finish it. I can't wait for the next book to come out!
