Primary Times launches smoke alarm petition

To celebrate 30 years of the publication, Primary Times has a birthday wish; for the government to create a new law to make it a legal requirement to have a working smoke alarm on every floor of every house where a child sleeps.

According to government data, a third of all fires have no smoke detection present or working, which suggests a huge number of the 18 million family homes in the UK could be unprotected and leaving children at unnecessary risk.

Robert Nisbet, Chief Executive of Primary Times, said “having once woken to a serious house fire myself, this is a subject close to my heart. Primary Times wants to help raise the awareness of house fires and if we can change the law then it will send an important message about fire awareness. We urge everyone to sign our petition because we know it will help to save lives”.
