A team of students from Abingdon School has won through to the National Final of the ifs Student Investor Challenge, the UK's premier investment competition. The boys had to invest a virtual £100,000 in a set of stocks and other investment instruments.
Team 'Tigers', with upper sixth economists Zachary Muncaster, Rafi'i al-Akiti, Sam Palmer and Tom Wiblin finished within the top eight teams in the semi-finals of this prestigious competition. 500 teams took part in the four-week online semi-final. The boys now advance to the National Final; a live event held in London on Wednesday 27 April where an all expenses paid trip to New York is the ultimate prize.
Nick Fieldhouse, Head of Economics and Business at Abingdon School, said, “It’s a fantastic achievement to win through to the National Final of ifs Student Investor - around 10,000 teams take part every year and to be in the final 8 is no mean feat. This is the first time Abingdon has won through to this stage of the competition. I now look forward to seeing the team perform 'live' in April.”
