20-21 Visual Arts Centre is delighted to present the first major UK gallery exhibition by contemporary kinetic sculptor Peter William Holden. Titled Repetition is a Form of Change, the multi-sensory exhibition combines sculpture, robotics, video and sound in automated sculptural performances, and will be on display at the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthorpe until 23 September.

Housed in a former Grade II* listed church, works on display include "Arabesque" – a kinetic artwork where life sized casts of limbs form a kaleidoscope of abstract patterns – and ''AutoGene" – where umbrellas are transformed into magical animated objects.

''I'm always looking to try and find something poetical, a way to emotionally connect people to the artworks,'' shares Peter William Holden. ''Sometimes with just simple interactions such as an elaborate switch that allows people to set a piece in motion. It's like triggering the chain reaction in a domino run. I love seeing the expressions of the public as the artworks jump into action.''

The exhibition has already elicited a strong response and inspired young people in the local community to create their own artwork, with students from the Engineering UTC Northern Lincolnshire combining art and engineering to make their own pieces.

"It is a real honour for 20-21 Visual Arts Centre to be chosen as the location for Peter's first exhibition in the UK. The work is mesmerising, playful and emotional, combining beauty with technology. The nave space has been completely transformed and when the cinematic pieces spring into life they are a pure delight for the audience. It is an absolute must-see and shows the increased ambition of exhibitions at the gallery following further Arts Council England investment as a National Portfolio Organisation." Michelle Lally, Creative Arts Manager.

Richard Brown, Senior Relationship Manager, Arts Council England said "We're pleased to support 20-21 Visual Arts Centre as one of our National Portfolio Organisations. It is a key organisation showing high quality work in North Lincolnshire and it's great to see it present the first major UK gallery exhibition by Peter William Holden. I'm sure that his extraordinary work will attract and inspire the local community and visitors alike."
