Theatre Summer School at Junction Goole for young people
During the Summer Holidays, Junction has organised a theatre summer school for young people between the ages of 5 and 16.
For four weeks, the young people will have the experience to work with a team of professional theatre makers and develop their performing and making skills, together with expanding their social skills and confidence.
The summer school offers two different programmes:
Play In A Week - the young people get to create, practice, learn movement and lines and rehearse a play based on a given script; (ages 11-13s and 14-16s) Shadow Puppetry - a set of sessions where the participants will create their own shadow puppets, learn how to manoeuvre them and create stories around their characters. Two artists from Indigo Moon Theatre will be delivering these sessions, one of which will be an Indonesian artist, Haviel Perdana, who will be bringing the authenticity of the craft into the room; (ages 5-7s and 8-10s)
At the end of each week, the young people will have the opportunity to perform in front of their invited guests on the main stage at Junction.
This project engages with the young people for a longer duration of time (a week), as Junction wants to emphasise the value of the experience and the range of skills that the participants will have after spending a week with the artists.
Andra Chelcea, Creative Engagement Officer at Junction says: “We’re really excited to bring this new set of week-long workshops to Junction. As we move into the next school year, we have loads of new ideas that will add to our offer of creative and fun courses for children, young people, families, and adults”.
Junction Summer School has been made possible through funding awarded by the Holiday Activities and Food Programme.
The summer school is FREE to all children aged between 5-16 years old on free school meals, and a FREE lunch will be provided daily. Limited additional places are also available.
