Willy Wonka creates a sweet day for primary school children at Magnus!
Magnus Church of England Academy invited primary school children in for an exciting afternoon of creativity with Willy Wonka!
Trudi Ward-Walters (PA to Principal) at Magnus Church of England Academy explained. “We have a fun tradition at Magnus to invite year 6 pupils from local primary schools to join us for a Willy Wonka afternoon. Not only does it give pupils the opportunity to take part in every aspect of creating a delicious box of chocolate treats, but also to get a feel for what it is like to be part of our very special Magnus family.”
Pupils were tasked with creating their own box of chocolates from scratch, incorporating every step of the design and manufacturing process. They formed their own plastic templates, made and decorated the chocolate box and designed and created colourful sleeves in which to place their home-made chocolate truffles. They also spent time producing a musical jingle to promote their product.
As a finale to the event parents were invited in to the Academy to watch the pupils perform songs from the Willy Wonka musical, helped by the talented head of music at Magnus, Mr Neil Wright.
Trudi said that the event was a success with pupils. “We have been doing this for the past three years now and the primary pupils always leave Magnus buzzing with excitement and looking forward to their transition week in July and summer school in August before joining us in September.”
William Gladstone C of E Primary Academy pupil, Tommy Donegan, (Yr6) said he really enjoyed the event. “We have made some chocolates and designed a box to put them in today. I’ve never made chocolates before and I think it was the best bit because I got covered in chocolate doing it!”
