Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,500 organisations, 5,000 events and 40,000 volunteers. Every year in September, places across the country throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.
Trevor Pressley, Visitor Experience Manager at Clumber Park said: “We are looking forward to welcoming visitors on Friday 8 September who might not come often to Clumber or who are regular visitors and want to discover a little bit more about the fascinating history and the work we do to keep our place special. It also offers an opportunity for people to find out more about the conservation work we’ll be doing as part of Clumber Park Revitalised.”
As part of the celebration Clumber Park will open its doors free of charge on Friday 8 September and visitors will be able to experience a range of special behind the scenes tours throughout the day. Each tour last about 45 minutes to an hour and is with one of the Clumber Park team.
The tours start at 11am with a tour of the walled kitchen garden looking at our heritage varieties of vegetables and fruit with Head Gardener Chris Margrave.
Next up it’s a tour of the ducal features in Pleasure Ground with a chance to find out more about its history and the work we’ll be doing as part of Clumber Park Revitalised.
Meet our expert Gardener Jack Pitts at the Dukes Study at 12noon.
Later, Ranger Tom Biddulph will be exploring further afield and looking at our natural heritage with a tour of Clumber Park’s differing habitats. Meet at Hardwick Village Car Park at 1.30pm.
