Talent Showcase at David Nieper Academy

The David Nieper Academy this week welcomed over 350 guests, together with 200+ local primary school children and their families to the newly opened school building in Alfreton. The occasion was a music and dance extravaganza with refreshments and a guided tour around the new £15 million state-of- the-art building.

Children from local Derbyshire schools including Copthorne Infants, Croft Infants, South Wingfield Primary, Fritchley Primary, Woodbridge Juniors, Christ The King Catholic Primary, Shirland Primary and Leys Junior school all participated in showcasing some fabulous talent including; contemporary dance, instrumental pieces, classic songs from the musicals, their own interpretations of music from well-known current artists such as Adele, as well as the djembe drums.

David Nieper Academy is keen to support its pupils and those in the local community not just academically but also outside the classroom. Children are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities from sports, to drama, debating, music and other performing arts.

Dr Kathryn Hobbs, Head teacher at David Nieper Academy commented:

“We would like to say huge congratulations and thank-you to all of the children who took part in our concert this week and to all of the teachers who have been coaching each of the acts over the past few weeks. This was our first concert in the new school and everyone has worked very hard to make the event a great success.

We have had so much feedback from staff and parents impressed by the talent and enthusiasm from our neighbouring schools, and we look forward to welcoming many of you back here in the future.”

The David Nieper Academy is one of Derbyshire’s most ambitious and innovative educational ventures and one of Britain’s few privately sponsored Academies. The recent move into the new school building takes the school another step closer to the goal of creating an outstanding school of which the whole community can be proud.
