RELAY FOR LIFE NOTTINGHAM RAISING MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK
Cancer Research UK Relay For Life Nottingham event is back for 2016, taking place on 16th & 17th July at the Harvey Hadden Stadium, Bilborough, Nottingham. The event plans to bring local people together to celebrate their fundraising and honour the region’s cancer survivors.
Relay For Life gives the people from across Nottinghamshire the opportunity to get together with friends, family, work colleagues and sports team mates to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK. At Relay For Life, teams made up of 8 to 15 people will take to the tracks over the 24 hours to celebrate their fundraising achievements, to celebrate life and remember those who have been lost to cancer. There will be live music, entertainment, fancy dress laps and lots of fun activities for the kids, all in aid of raising funds and awareness to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
Right now, the Relay For Life Committee are looking for teams and cancer survivors to take part in this amazing event in Nottingham. Cancer survivors can register for free and are treated as VIPs for the day.
Steve Wright, Chair of the Relay For Life Nottingham, said; ““I have been involved with Relay For Life in Nottingham since it began in 2006 because my girlfriend, Gill, is a breast cancer survivor. She will be taking part in the emotional opening lap with dozens of other survivors. Then our teams will take over on track. We are all participating in Relay For Life because we have been touched by cancer in one way or another. Everyone knows someone who has battled with this terrible disease and at Relay For Life, we join together to celebrate with those who won their battle and remember those who didn’t, when we hold our twilight Candle Of Hope ceremony.”
Steve continues; “The whole weekend is filled with fun and emotion and we get the chance to help beat cancer sooner by raising lots of money for Cancer Research UK.”
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through pioneering research. Today, more than 850 people will be diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, half will not win their battle. We want to see the day when every one of those patients who hears “I’m sorry….it’s cancer” also hears the words “you’re going to be ok”. We won’t stop until we reach that day. By joining a Relay For Life, and raising as much as you can, you will bring us a step closer to the day when all cancers are cured.
Relay For Life takes place in over 5,000 communities in over 25 countries round the world. Over 4 million people take part in Relay For Life each year, raising over £3.5 billion in the worldwide fight against cancer since 1985. So join the movement and be part of the fun by supporting Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life and registering at http://relay.cancerresearchuk.org/nottingham.
