Three vibrant new play parks set to benefit communities

A budget of £400,000 has been set aside to deliver replacement play parks in Ballykeel, Ballygally and Legg Park.

Children across Mid and East Antrim are set to benefit from three new play parks and Council want your input on the play equipment which will be installed.

A budget of £400,000 has been set aside to deliver replacement play parks in Ballykeel, Ballygally and Legg Park.

Championing the crucial role that play parks serve in the local communities, the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim has welcomed this investment.

Councillor Peter Johnston, said: "We want to improve the mental and physical health of all of the children in Mid and East Antrim by providing sustainable and affordable play parks.

"Establishing better quality play parks is part of our wider ambition to ensure that communities have a real sense of identity and place, and that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy them.

"This Council is determined to supply and look after our parks for future generations to enjoy.

"I would encourage everyone to submit their views on what equipment they feel should be included so these play areas are inclusive for everyone."

All-new play facilities will be installed at Ballykeel community centre play area.

Legg Park play area is also one of three play areas which will benefit from the first round of investment under the Strategy.

Located off the Belfast Road, Legg Park commemorates the life of 2nd Lieutenant Charles Legg who died during WW1 aged just 25.

A memorial stands within the park and was once topped with a statue of Peter Pan in tribute to the 'boy who never grew up'.

It is envisaged that the three new play areas will be completed by Easter 2021.

Much excitement lies ahead as officers plan the new play park and Council welcomes your feedback regarding the content of the new facilities.
