Pack the perfect picnic in the park, Dungannon Park

Pack up your picnics, gather family and friends and be sure to have a great day out at Dungannon Park on Bank Holiday Monday 27th August, for an afternoon of free fun and entertainment at the town’s annual Picnic in the Park event, for many marking the end of the school summer holidays.

Organised by Mid Ulster District Council, the event will take place from 12 noon – 5pm and everyone is welcome to join in the fun. There will be live music from local ladies, The Bellas, lots of free, fun family entertainment and guests can bring their own picnic food and blankets. Food will also be available to purchase on-site. The weather, of course, is the only thing that can’t be guaranteed so check before you go and pack appropriately.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Sean McPeake said, “Mid Ulster District Council is proud to showcase the amazing open green spaces available right on our doorsteps, and Picnic in the Park is a popular event in the town’s social calendar. Our parks and open spaces make a huge difference to residents’ quality of life, and it’s a fantastic idea to make use of these beautiful surroundings and encourage families to get out into their local community, maybe rediscover their local park and just have a really fun time together."

The Council has teamed up with Streetwise Performance to bring an array of fantastic family entertainment to Dungannon Park. Show pieces include street artists Babcock and Bobbins who are two of Ireland’s top street circus entertainers, offering a comic display of juggling, unicycling, fire juggling and ladder balancing. Dr Funnybone will add an element of mystery and trickery to the day with and magic and puppet show experience that will delight the little ones.

Last year’s very popular Go Fly a Kite workshops will also make a return, with brand new Pottery Wheel workshops with Shauna McCann added to the bill for this year.

There will be lots of other free fun including face painting, balloon modelling and interactive activities for children including Jump, Jiggle and Jive dance workshops, and soft play double decker buses, as well as high-energy activities for the more adventurous, including the Vortex Tunnel, Go Karting, hola hooping, trampolines, climbing wall and a 25ft tall inflatable Infinity Tower.

Picnic in the Park is just one of the many events organised by Mid Ulster District Council to give local people and visitors a great day out in the district. For more information go to: www.midulstercouncil.org/picnic or call 028 8772 8690
