Have a blast and discover all about the mighty Thor

Join the Mission Commanders at the National Space Centre, as they celebrate 60 years of their very own “Mighty Thor”. The Thor-Able was an American expendable launch system and sounding rocket used for a series of re-entry vehicle tests and satellite launches between 1958 and 1960. This May Half Term Holiday they will be looking at the history of the Thor Able rocket, the work it carried out and some of its passengers. Find out more about rocket science, make your own Moustronaut and take a Mini Thor Tour with their Science Interpreters.

Wicksteed Park serves up super fun and fab food

Wicksteed Park has a host of new attractions for 2018 and has something for all the family to enjoy this May half term. The park has a fantastic new chef and has rejuvenated all its food outlets, with lots of scrummy meals and snacks, made from locally-sourced food. As well as all the rides and attractions, children can enjoy Sycamore Circle, which provides a wonderful blend of nature and fun, clamber over the branches of Spider Oaks or brave the Tree Top Walk. For those too small for the play attractions there are meerkats, ponies, alpacas and don’t forget Wickys Play Factory for indoor fun.

Tabbalabba fun at Gulliver’s Theme Park

Craft and Design Show at Castle Ashby

Palladian Events returns to Castle Ashby House and Gardens this Spring Bank Holiday weekend with their annual top quality craft, design and entertainment show. The event features the work of over 60 quality British designer-makers and the opportunity to purchase original and affordable work created by some of finest crafts people in the UK. There will be displays of falconry, pony rides, mountain bike stunt show, have-a-go archery and croquet and the chance to ride on the traditional carousel as well as live music, a food court and refreshment area. With all the usual attractions available too, it’s a great family day out!

Festival of Country Life at Lamport Hall

The beautiful grounds of Lamport Hall will be open for traditional fun for all the family over the bank holiday weekend. It’s a great chance to get close with the owls, see the exotic parrots and guide dogs for the blind. There will be steam engines and classic cars galore, and don’t miss the blacksmith and the Battle of Britain fly-past! For refreshments, you can tuck into lots of tasty local food, and there’s a whole tractor-full of things to see and enjoy! Family tickets £25, children under 5 go free.

Magic at the museum fun day

Head down to Manor House Museum for a fantastic day of magical fun and activities. You can enjoy magic shows, balloon modelling, face painting (age 3+), crafts, and a magic potion trail! Tudor Fair at Sulgrave Manor

  1. Manor, the ancestral home of George Washington, located in Banbury is now open for the public to enjoy at their leisure on a Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Take a self-led tour around the fascinating house, stroll around their glorious garden and enjoy a light lunch and homemade cake in the Tea Room. Wicksteed at War – a show for the whole family

Wicksteed at War is a free to enter event and this year they are celebrating 100 years of the RAF. Schools Educational Day is on Friday 8th June where there will be a full arena programme, WW1 Horses, WWII vehicles, re-enactors and modern military vehicles. The programme will conclude with the two large mock battles. Visitors can expect a large selection of stalls, a Lancaster fly- past on Saturday and Spitfire on Sunday. They also have a Spitfire & ME109 on the ground and a whole range of military vehicles to see! There’s a Victory Party (£12.50) on Saturday featuring the Bombshell Belles, a 40’s Band and 1940’s DJ Major Swing.

Free family fun at Northampton’s spectacular Carnival

Northampton Carnival Arts Consortium is pleased to announce the most exciting, talked about multicultural community event in the social calendar is fast approaching. Saturday 9th June sees the town centre come alive, with a spectacular display of creative designs and colourful costumes as they take pride of place in the Carnival Parade. From 12 noon, The Racecourse Park, Kettering Road opens to provide talented local performances and live entertainment, including the head-line act, the legendary Mystic Crew Reggae Band, plus thrilling funfair rides, ethnic arts and tasty treats for all the family.

Jousting & Medieval Living History Village at Rockingham Castle 

This Father’s Day, Sunday 18th June, the Knights of Nottingham and the Oxford Household make a heraldic return to Rockingham Castle. Witness the spectacular Knights’ battle for supremacy amidst the thunder of hooves and the clashes of steel!

Take the whole family and visit the living history village where craftsmen display their skills, the jester entertains, fire eaters mesmerise and storytellers weave tales of mystery, magic and legend. Gates open at 12noon and the last entry is 4.30pm.
