Lola the pig has kicked off the Baby Boom season at Lee Valley Park Farms in Waltham Abbey by giving birth to nine piglets this week (13 March), the first animal on the farm to have babies this spring.
With several of the other animals including sheep and goats awaiting new arrivals, the annual Baby Boom at the farm is expected to get into full swing in the next few weeks.
The new arrivals are among the 300 animals at the farm, which has a variety of feathered and furry friends, including Meerkats, chinchillas, ponies, reindeer, goats, llamas, and Miniature Zebu.
Lee Valley Park Farms Manager James Broomfield said: “We are delighted to welcome our first babies of the season. Our Baby Boom time is always a very popular period, with visitors enjoying bottle feeding the orphan lambs, as well as taking part in all our many fun activities.”
Once all the babies have arrived, throughout the Easter period between Saturday 1 April and Monday 17 April, children will be able to hand feed bottled milk to the new baby animals, as well as getting up close to many of the smaller inhabitants of the farm.
The farm, which is celebrating its 40th birthday this year, also has plenty of other activities, with indoor and outdoor play areas, a toboggan run, plus a chance to take a ride on Tex the Tractor to a working dairy farm. Visitors can round off the day with delicious homemade cakes and freshly prepared food in The Bumblebee Café.
