The ‘Baby Boom’ at Lee Valley Park Farms has begun with a flourish, with eight newborn lambs making their entrance into the world over the past few weeks.
The new additions to the growing entourage of animals at the Waltham Abbey farms include six Hebridean sheep – all twins, plus two Portland lambs. They are pictured hours after being born at the farms, which are still looking forward to more ‘Baby Boom’ arrivals in the next few weeks.
Already the farm has been acting host to 30 orphan lambs, which are being fed regularly by visitors twice a day. There is still a chance for children visiting the farms to bottle feed the orphan lambs, while the farms await many more newborn additions to the flock and goat kids too.
The new lambs are among the 300 animals at the farms, including Meerkats, chinchillas, ponies, reindeer, goats, llamas, and Miniature Zebu. The variety of furry and feathered friends at the farms is vast, including guinea pigs, rabbits, tortoises and some exotic species such as snakes.
Lee Valley Park Farms Manager James Broomfield said: “We are delighted to welcome our new arrivals to the farm. Our Baby Boom time is always a very popular period, with visitors enjoying bottle feeding the orphan lambs, as well as taking part in all our many fun activities.”
There are also indoor and outdoor play areas, a toboggan run, plus a chance to take a ride on Tex the Tractor to a working dairy farm. Visitors can round off the day with delicious homemade cakes and freshly prepared food in the Orchard Café.
As well as holiday activities, the farms also run special events such as children’s parties and self-guided tours for schools.
Lee Valley Park Farms, in Stubbins Hall Lane, Waltham Abbey, are open daily until 30 October, between 10:00-17:00 and entry is £9.50 for adults and £8.50 for children and concessions, while under 2s go free. More information at: www.lvfarms.co.uk ; or 01992 892 781.
