We know that this is a unique time in the school life of Year 6 pupils who are looking forward to their move to secondary but also may be nervous at the prospect of such a big change. With this in mind, schools across the region will shortly be hosting open events in order for you to have face-to-face visits with them and find out all the information you need to make the very important decision about which school to send your child to.
To find an Ofsted inspection report about an individual state maintained school visit https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk. For independent schools, inspection reports can be found on the Independent Schools Inspectorate website by visiting www.isi.net.
Catchment areas
Although most pupils end up applying to the school in their catchment area, there are some schools that do not operate designated areas and have a slightly different admissions policy. So, it is worth checking the admissions policy on each school’s website for further information. If you are considering applying to a local independent school, it will have its own separate admissions procedure.
Catchment Areas in Norfolk: To find the designated school for your area visit www.whereilive.norfolk.gov.uk – School Catchments or http://maps.norfolk.gov.uk/schoolcatchments/schools.aspx
Applying to a School out of Catchment Area: You’ll be asked to list up to 3 state schools in order of preference on your application form. Whether a place is offered will depend on the school’s admission process and if places are available. For most schools in Norfolk, there is an admissions priority for children who live in the school’s catchment area.

Can you tell us a fun fact?
We have two school dogs: Casper, a yellow Labrador, in the Senior School, and Ivy, a Portuguese Water Dog, in the Sixth Form. There are lots of benefits including reducing stress, offering students and staff a good reason to go for a lunchtime walk in our woodland grounds and enhancing the family-feel of our school.
Nestling on the edge of Norwich city centre, Hewett Academy is a small but mighty school that promotes a love of learning, with Ofsted praising them for their ‘culture of high expectations’.
The school offers a wide range of excellent facilities across its impressive 62 acre site and puts great emphasis on the importance of sport, music, and the creative arts, and as a result they were recently chosen to exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts Young Artists’ Exhibition.
The Hewett Academy often teams up with sister schools - Jane Austen College and Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form to put on sell-out performances which they are able to host in their very own Walter Roy Theatre, giving their students a taste of the stage and screen.
Rated Ofsted ‘Good’, the school continues to go from strength-to-strength, continually seeing its results, behaviour and attendance increase year-on-year inline with national averages across all areas.
A real asset to the community, the academy has a brilliant ‘Friends Of’ group with students and families getting fully involved in all aspects of school life.

“Attleborough Academy is a popular 11 to 18 Academy which is continually developing to meet the demands of providing the highest quality education for all students.
The Academy joined the Sapientia Education Trust (SET) in June 2020 and just before Easter 2023, we were pleased to announce that we have achieved the World Class School Quality Mark which is a tribute to all in our community. We are one of only 120 non-selective schools nationally to achieve this ‘World Class school’ status.
We are an inclusive, friendly and effective learning community with high aspirations and a reputation for innovation. Excellent relationships between students and staff are at the heart of the ethos of the Academy and are often commented on by those who visit the school. In our most recent Ofsted Inspection (2021), we were termed a ‘special place to be’. The Academy is a hardworking and caring community of people with high standards and high expectations. Our core values are Commitment, Acknowledgement, Respect and Excellence (CARE). CARE therefore has a genuine meaning within our school as we want these values to be seen in all aspects of our work together.

Our boarding house structure means students belong to a smaller community where pastoral and wellbeing support ensures every child is known and cared for.
Its World Class status reflects the high-quality, all-round education students receive for free, many going onto Oxford, Cambridge, and Russell group universities. Considering all these aspects of such a unique College, it is fantastic value for money and with the College’s charity status, there is a modest boarding fee.
The College is steeped in a rich heritage and cherishes its history, while continuing to innovate and lead education nationally.”
Wymondham College Prep School is one of only two primary state boarding schools in the UK. The school was rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in June 2023, a school where, “Pupils quickly develop a love of learning. Stimulating and engaging learning activities spark their curiosity. Staff have the highest aspiration for pupils.”
The school motto is 'Try Hard, Be Kind, Be You', which Ofsted recognised, “…is not just a motto – it is the lived experience of pupils.” The school is ambitious, providing a rigorous, knowledge-rich curriculum that follows well researched schemes of work. The school puts a great emphasis on high academic standards as well as developing the ‘whole child’ through its broad personal development programme, Prep Life.
