Thursday 19th

Robots

The blockbuster exhibition that has been wowing visitors to London’s Science Museum makes its way to Manchester. With an amazing collection of more than 100 robots, visitors can explore humanity’s 500-year quest to recreate ourselves in mechanical form. Museum of Science and Industry, Liverpool Road.

Pattern Bot Pandemonium

Pattern Bots are hours of fun. Design ‘em, build ‘em, set ‘em loose: unleash your inner inventor and build your own robo racecourse from coloured pens. Will your bot stay on course? Will it go rogue? Will it pick a fight with other bots? A robo adventure that poses all sorts of interesting questions about swarm behaviour. 2-4pm. Running until 29th October.

Museum of Science and Industry, Liverpool Road.

Tape

Is your spidey sense tingling? That’ll be because award-winning artists Numen/For Use have transformed the 1830 Warehouse into a giant spider’s web made from sticky tape. Inspired by the incredible engineering properties of spider silk, you can clamber up into the rafters and get an arachnid’s-eye view of the webbed world according to our eight-legged friends. Running until 29th October. Museum of Science and Industry, Liverpool Road.

Saturday 21st

Science Spectacular

Bubble science, dancing robots and moon rocks - it’s all happening at the Science Spectacular. Visitors to this fun-filled day of challenges, experiments and interactive demonstrations will also have the chance to chat to the amazing scientists and engineers behind some of the world’s most incredible discoveries. 11am-4pm. Whitworth Hall and Manchester Museum, Oxford Road.

GameLab

Puzzles, problem-solving and PlayStations: it’s all about experimental gaming at GameLab. With three floors of activity, you can do it all - from interactive VJ events and controllable digital fish to eSports events and retro platforms. University of Salford, MediaCity. 11am-5pm. Also on 22nd October.

Monday 23rd October

Mankind vs Machine

Mankind and machine go head to head in the ultimate battle of metal vs minds. The round-based game features an array of fiendishly difficult tests and experiments, some that can be done by man, others by machine. A light-hearted look into the science, ethics and future of automation. Museum of Science and Industry, Liverpool Road. Running until 29th October.

Ensonglopedia of Science

It’s sing-along science time! Tune in to the A-Z of science history, as they explore a different theme for each letter of the alphabet. Using an eclectic range of instruments, and a mash-up of genres, experience a world of ingenuity that’s music to your ears. Central Library, St Peters Square. 2.30-4pm.

Sunday 29th

Family Rave

DJ Mark XTC and Big Fish Little Fish host the best family rave going, featuring bubbles, glitter cannons, giant colouring-in murals and even a baby chill-out area. Themed around ‘spooky science’, this year will also see ZooLabs’ snake and spider handling, skeleton dancers and much, much more! 2-4.30pm. The Birdcage, Withy Grove.
