At Kent College Canterbury, cricket is not just a game—it’s a cornerstone of student development, community engagement, and sporting excellence. With a deep-rooted passion for the sport and a strong partnership with Kent County Cricket Club, the College nurtures young talent and promotes inclusivity in cricket across the county.
Cricket is introduced from an early age at the College under the guidance of Megan Belt, KCCC Women’s Captain and teacher at KC Junior School. Beyond its own grounds, Kent College actively encourages young talent in the sport, from coaching in local schools to hosting an annual junior schools’ cricket festival at the Spitfire Ground with KCCC players.
In the Senior School, students have access to a wide array of excellent facilities that enable year-round training, body strengthening, and conditioning in the new gym. The professional coaching team, led by Mr Linden Lockhart, Director of Sport, guides talented students through the Kent Cricket Regional Development Pathway (KDRP). This initiative provides aspiring cricketers aged U11 to U15 with access to top-tier facilities. The KDRP acts as a vital bridge to the County Age Group system, offering both boys and girls a structured route into professional cricket.
Inclusivity is further championed through the MCC Foundation Hub, hosted at Kent College, which offers free coaching and match opportunities to state school students aged U14 and U16. With winter training and summer festival matches, the MCC Hub is a powerful platform for grassroots development.
Kent College’s cricketing success is evident in its students and alumni. Alexa Stonehouse and Tilly Corteen-Coleman have both risen through the ranks to represent England U19s, with Alexa recently earning a place in the Senior England Squad. Tilly’s record-breaking debut in The Hundred as its youngest-ever player underscores the calibre of athletes the College produces. Current students continue this legacy, already making waves in county and academy cricket. With around 30 students involved in the county pathway and regular team appearances in county finals, the school’s success continues to extend to national level.
The school’s sports scholarship programme ensures these achievements are supported by a robust academic and athletic framework. The strength of the cricket programme at Kent College allows aspiring cricketers to pair outstanding support with an excellent education, giving them the best possible chance to enter the professional environment.
