Time-travelling summer fun at The Commandery, Worcester

Over the summer holidays, when you visit The Commandery you might find yourself delving into Victorian inventions, medieval hospital life or into an inky print-works with an activity-filled programme of family fun from Tuesday 20 July to bank holiday Monday 30 August. Inspired by the 1000 years of history that lies behind The Commandery’s gates, each week the museum will host hands-on craft, sensory and science activities inspired by a different period including Medieval medicine, Tudor buildings, Civil War escapes, Georgian life, Victorian inventions and traditional print workshops. From writing secret letters to creating baffling inventions, there will also be the opportunity to fill up a time-travelling passport to win a prize. To finish off the fantastic summer, Powerful Princesses and Noble Knights on the bank holiday Monday 30 August is a ‘funday’ of exciting events, with interactive storytelling, archery, garden games and even some hobby horse racing. There will be trails to complete around The Commandery building and grounds, as well as creative crafts with the opportunity to create something to take home.

Alongside the summer activities, visitors of all ages can discover stories from the city’s dramatic history during every visit and relax in the peaceful enclosed gardens. An annual ticket to The Commandery including entry to special events is £5.50 for Worcester City residents if they produce a Worcester City Council tax bill. Otherwise, entry is £7.50 for adults, £2.50 for children (5-16 years) and under 5s are FREE. Visitors can find out more at www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk
