Be the Vital Spark That Changes a Life

Could you give just one hour a week to become a volunteer mentor with MCR Pathways?

MCR Pathways is an award-winning, relationship-based mentoring programme that sparks potential and awakens ambition.

When a single spark of connection ignites, incredible things happen for young people through the power of mentoring. Mentoring builds confidence, instils belief, awakens ambitions, and expands their future horizons. The impact is life-changing: an MCR Pathways programme reports that 75.6% of their mentored care-experienced young people achieved a Level 5 qualification last year.

Jamie’s journey is a perfect example of how the right support can change a young person's outlook. When Jamie first joined the programme at Cleveden Secondary School in Glasgow, his attendance was 70% and he struggled to find a reason to engage with his classes. With encouragement from MCR Pathways staff, Jamie was matched with David, and the pair hit it off immediately.

David provided the consistent, listening ear that Jamie had been missing. As a result of this support, his attendance soared to 95%, and he stayed back on track to gain National 5s in Maths and English. This transformation was made possible because one person - David - decided to give just one hour a week.

Mentoring is also incredibly rewarding for the mentor. Supporting someone to reach their full potential can increase your own confidence and give a deep sense of purpose. In fact, 89% of MCR Pathways mentors report a deep sense of personal fulfilment

As a parent or carer, you will already recognise many challenges young people face today and you’ll have the qualities they look for in a mentor. By simply being a good listener, compassionate and sharing your ideas, you can help a young person to build confidence, believe in themselves and dream big.

MCR Pathways need volunteer mentors across the West of Scotland. Could you give just one hour a week to help a young person in your local community to spark their potential? If so, they’d love to hear from you.

Reach out to Laura at laura.mckechnie@mcrpathways.org to answer any questions about becoming a mentor. They are also looking for businesses and organisations to partner with; if you think your workplace could get involved, Laura would love to discuss how you can work together.
