Visitors are invited to hear the story of how and why the National Wallace Monument was built in a new actor presentation - ‘Monument Memories: Reflections of a Caretaker' - at the iconic Scottish Landmark in February, as part of a series of events celebrating VisitScotland's Year of Innovation, Architecture & Design.
Monument Memories is a presentation, by Heritage Events, that allows visitors a glimpse in to the life of a Caretaker at the Monument in 1916, who will reveal intriguing tales of the dramatic adventures at Stirling's famous landmark.
Ken Thomson, Marketing Manager at Stirling District Tourism said: "As this is Scotland's Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design we wanted to share the story of how the Monument came to be in a new and intriguing way with visitors. The Monument Memories presentation does just that and will allow visitors to discover more about the rich history behind the Victorian masterpiece, how it was built and also hear about some of the incredible events that have happened there over the years, including the installation of the Wallace sword in 1888."
An ideal activity during the school half term holiday, the presentation is set to take place at regular intervals each day on 6th, 7th, 10th, 13th and 14th February.
Following the performance visitors can then explore the magnificent Monument itself where Wallace's life and legacy is told in three galleries, one of which features his legendary battle sword. An impressive 246 steps can be climbed to reach the top of the Monument, where visitors can stand in the Crown and take in the breathtaking 360-degree view of central Scotland and the Highlands to the north.
Visitors who purchase a full price ticket for the National Wallace Monument and enjoy the Monument Memories presentation in February will also receive a 50% discount at The Battle of Bannockburn Experience, and vice-versa. The offer is valid for 48 hours after visiting the first attraction and visitors will be required to show their receipt.
The National Wallace Monument will continue celebrations of VisitScotland's Year of Innovation, Architecture & Design throughout the year including a full weekend of activities in June.
