Discover the Essex you never knew existed, at this special event at Hedingham Castle
Author, adventurer and storyteller James Lawrence brings his 400km Essex adventure to the historic Norman castle for an evening of stories, legends and live folk music.
On 18th November, Hedingham Castle will welcome James Lawrence, also known as Man About Country, for a special evening celebrating the history, folklore and hidden stories of Essex.
The event marks the release of James's new book, The Essex Ways: A Walker's Guide to the Stories and Legends of England's Most Fascinating County, which takes readers on an extraordinary 400km journey through the county's wildest landscapes, uncovering its fascinating characters, forgotten histories and remarkable places along the way.
Having spent more than five years leading walks and sharing stories from some of Britain's most fascinating locations, James turned his attention to his home county with a mission to challenge the familiar stereotypes and reveal why Essex deserves to be recognised as one of England's most intriguing counties.
As a Cultural Ambassador for Essex, his journey has already inspired a sell-out storytelling tour across the county, a film and now the publication of his latest book.
Set within the atmospheric surroundings of Hedingham Castle's historic Norman Banqueting Hall, the evening promises an entertaining exploration of Essex's rich and often surprising heritage, from dragons and witches to warriors, myths and legends.
The event will also feature live music from folk artist Rebecca Leek, who will perform before the talk and during the interval, adding to the atmosphere of this unique evening.
