Primary Times Children's Choice Awards review of Rubbish Shakespeare: A Midsummers Night's Dream

Our Primary Times' reviewer said:

This show should be renamed Utterly Brilliant Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night’s Dream! It’s a fun, energetic and hilarious production.

It tells the story of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in a slapstick, imaginative, original and engaging way. There’s bubbles, water guns (I mean love potions), bottom chat and a tummy for the mums! The cast of four (five if you include a cardboard cut out), have great chemistry on stage, they make each other laugh, tease one another, kiss and even wipe salvia on each other.

Really enjoyed watching them moving around the stage and the way they used their props especially, the Togas and fairy wings! The children in the audience, ranged between 3-12, (they asked kids their age at the start), were properly belly laughing throughout and shouting out. One dad in front of us was doubled-over laughing.

There’s some audience participation, they require volunteers to be the moonlight, the Queen and someone has to help Puck squirt water. Sam (age 9) said “the show was really good” and Ben (age 8) said “it was funny, I liked the camel in the woods”. As we left, my youngest son looked behind the back curtain to see if he could find another water gun! The cast came out to say goodbye to everyone and gave out stickers. When they asked if we thought it was rubbish… our answer was No!

Our young reviewer says:

"It's a bit like Horrible Histories but funnier" Ben, aged 8
