Primary Times Children's Choice Awards review of Romantic Romeo

Our Primary Times' reviewer said:

Romantic Romeo is an energetic musical version of Romeo and Juliet that our family really enjoyed.

Captivate Theatre manage to take Shakepeare’s tragic play and turn the story into a hilarious, song-packed hour of fun. Famous lines from the original are included (along with explanations) so it’s a fun introduction to the play, and to Shakespearean language, for anyone who hasn’t encountered it before.

We were at one of the first performances of this year’s Fringe and the audience was pretty small, but the cast of Romantic Romeo managed to fill the auditorium despite this with their enthusiastic and entertaining performances. The young cast are very talented, great at acting, singing and comedy (we particularly enjoyed the train joke).

My children are on the older side (11 and 15) but I would have no qualms about the recommended age of 5+ for this, and the adults in the audiences were enjoying it as much as anyone. If you’re looking for a show that the whole family will enjoy you won’t go wrong with Romantic Romeo, it’s a great family show.

Our young reviewers say:

My 11 year old daughter said: “I thought it was very good, the actors were very good and funny.”

My 15 year old added: “Good show, I was impressed with how they managed to make a serious play more lighthearted and the acting was very good”.
