Primary Times Children's Choice Awards review of Rocket Girl

Our Primary Times' reviewer said:

Rocket Girl is a tale of our times, set in 1969. The story of Maisie, a young girl with big dreams of becoming an astronaut and being the first girl to walk on the moon. Told through puppetry, storytelling and a wonderful recorded narrative, we follow Maisie as she chases her dreams, battling schoolgirl ninnies, death of a loved one and difficult circumstances until she finds her belief and her people.

My children were open mouthed throughout and loved retelling the story to me afterwards.

Martha (10) loved the minimal set, with clever use of props - finger torches put to work- and the interchanging roles of the cast as actors and puppeteers. The emotion portrayed by the Maisie puppet was extraordinary. Clara (7) was entranced by the sound effects made by the cast, particularly in the space scenes and the wildlife.

A totally charming hour of theatre for children 7+.

Our young reviewer says:

"A touching tale about a girl trying to achieve her dreams." - Martha, aged 10

"A rebel girl who didn't give up." - Clara, aged 7
