Primary Times Children's Choice Awards review of Children's Underground Ghost Show

Our Primary Times' reviewer said:

The show starts with a two-minute walk from the ticket booth to the actual venue. You follow your guide across a road and enter a stair doorway, down some spiralling stairs and then into a dark room. The guide tells you the only way to call on the ghost is to shout “Minging Annie”. Soon after, Minging Annie, your hostess appears and begins to tell you her story.

She recounts tales from old Edinburgh, which was actually really informative about witches, Joseph Bell (the Sherlock Holmes author), the bubonic plague, the old city underneath modern Edinburgh, the South Bridge opening ceremony, and a secret tunnel and other spooky tales.

When we entered into the Niddry Wynd and under the Southbridge, Jess (aged 11) said “this is cool”. It was dimly light so atmospheric but not too scary for younger children. People walking overhead makes one part of the tour a bit eerie, but this adds to the experience.

There was some children participation, and the storytelling was humorous for both adults and children. We really enjoyed it, great way to get get kids interested in Edinburgh history as it was very entertaining. Also great for kids who don’t like sitting still for shows!

Our young reviewer says:

"It was really realistic, thought it was funny and I really liked it." Jess, aged 11
