Child flu vaccine: help beat flu with a wee scoosh
Flu can be serious, even for healthy children and young people. That’s why, every year in Scotland, the vaccine is offered to:
• children and young people in primary and secondary school
• children aged 2 to 5 years on 1st September 2026 (and not yet in school).
The vaccine is quick, simple and given as a small spray up each nostril. It’s the safest and easiest way to help protect children against flu this winter.
Last winter, over 1,700 children in Scotland spent time in hospital with flu. Getting vaccinated helps reduce the risk of serious illness and also helps stop flu spreading to family members, friends and others in the community who may be more vulnerable.
Children aged 2 to 5 years who are not yet at school will receive a letter with appointment details, or information on how to book. Primary and secondary school pupils will receive information and a consent form from their school.
The nasal spray vaccine has been used safely in Scotland’s child flu vaccination programme since 2014, with millions of doses given.
