Gorgie City Farm closes its doors

Former staff at Gorgie City Farm have started a fundraising campaign to save Gorgie City Farm after the charity announced it was closing its doors permanently due to “falling revenue”.

The farm, which has been open for 40 years, was a firm favourite with families. Entry was free and there was a range of farm and pet animals to visit. The farm also offered volunteering opportunities and support to disadvantaged young people and adults, and welcomed the Queen for a visit during the summer.

Around 200,000 people a year visited the farm which housed around 50 farm animals and around 50 pets; the search is now on to find new homes for them. Eighteen staff have lost their jobs. The GoFundMe campaign to save the farm can be found at Twitter and on Facebook at @FarmEdinburgh.
