As winter takes hold and the colder weather sets in, for the first time ever Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire is putting on Christmas events to keep the whole family entertained this festive season.
The historic English Heritage site is hosting ‘An Audience with Father Christmas’ events – a brand new enchanting experience for children – every Saturday and Sunday until Sunday 18 December. Little ones will get to join in with festive fun and crafts before meeting the main man himself as he recounts some magical tales of Christmas past and hands out festive treats.
After exploring the castle and enjoying a stroll in the grounds, visitors will be able to warm up with a hot chocolate in the café and get their Christmas shopping underway in the gift shop, featuring unique gifts for all the family. On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December, Bolsover Castle is holding Christmas Shopping Days where shoppers will receive 10% off their purchases.
Bolsover Castle will also be hosting its first ever Carol Concert on Saturday 10 December at 6.30pm. Visitors can wrap up warm as they get into the festive spirit listening to carols sung by the Fishpond Choir in the unique surroundings of the Riding House.

Our ‘An Audience with Father Christmas’ events are the perfect way to get the whole family in the festive spirit. Set amidst yuletide decorations, the man himself will regale children with enchanting Christmas tales. Then we’ve got our Carol Concert; set in the stunning surroundings of the Riding House this is an event is not to be missed, so wrap up warm and come and join us as we celebrate Bolsover Castle’s first Christmas.”
An Audience with Father Christmas events run every Saturday and Sunday until Sunday 18 December. The Carol Concert takes place on Saturday 10 December; entrance is from 6.30pm with the performance at 7pm. Pre-booking for both events is essential.
