Beastly Bolsover Castle prepares to make visitors scream!
English Heritage is gearing up to host a week of Halloween-themed events to keep the whole family entertained at the hauntingly scary Bolsover Castle this ‘Shock-tober’ half term.
There are events to suit everyone - from families wanting to keep the kids entertained during the school holidays, to thrill-seeking couples looking for the fright of their lives.
For little horrors there’sTricks & Tonicswhich runs from Saturday 22 – Friday 28 October. Children can join the potion master and weave some magic as they make their very own potion to take home, as well as learning some amazing magic tricks to astound their friends and family. A 17th century storyteller will also be sharing spellbinding tales of restless spectres, creeping creatures, devious devils and shadowy things in the night.
Children can show off their spooktacular costumes as they try to frighten English Heritage’s fearless staff in the daily costume competition, with a prize on offer for the most spine-tingling outfit.
Families (children over 10 only) who dare step inside the Creepy Castle at Night are in for a hair-raising experience on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October. Featuring live action and mystifying mazes this is an experience which isn’t for the faint-hearted. Deadly deeds and freaky fun lurks around every corner as residents past and present invite visitors into a terrifying world of tricks and treats.
Then on Halloween itself – Monday 31 October – and again on Saturday 26 November, visitors will hear tales of dark deeds, ghostly apparitions and scary happenings on the adults only Ghost Tour, and hear about the woman who still haunts the Little Castle today.
Rebecca Hornby, Events Manager for English Heritage, said: “The nights may be drawing in, but this October half term there will be plenty of fun to be had at Bolsover Castle. As one of our scariest sites, there’s no better place for little ones to dress up in your scariest outfit and for grown-ups to experience a truly haunting Halloween.”
The Tricks and Tonics events runs from 11am-4pm on Saturday 22 – Friday 28 October; Creepy Castle at Night opens its doors from 6pm-10pm on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October and the haunting Ghost Tourstake place at 6pm, 8pm and 10.30pm on Monday 31 October and Saturday 26 November.
