Winter at Wordsworth Grasmere

Celebrate the magic of the season with a wonderful winter day out at Wordsworth Grasmere. Families can enjoy festive fun, creative workshops, and cosy experiences inspired by the Wordsworth family’s life 200 years ago.

Step back in time with a Candlelit Tour of Dove Cottage (Tuesday–Saturday, 3.20pm) and imagine the Wordsworths celebrating by the warm glow of the hearth. This winter, the cottage will also be adorned with a beautiful Christmas floral display created by the Floralistas, adding an extra touch of festive Regency charm.

Younger visitors can get hands-on in the Museum with festive crafts at the Art Cart, free with admission, or join the enchanting Little Wanderers sessions (Thursdays in December) for songs, stories and play inspired by poetry and nature — perfect for under-5s and their grown-ups.

On 20 December, take part in the Regency Christmas Family Workshop, where you’ll make traditional crafts, decorate gingerbread stars, and discover how Christmas was celebrated in Wordsworth’s day.

After exploring, warm up with a Seasonal Afternoon Tea in the Café, served every Wednesday to Friday until 19 December. Enjoy a delicious selection of local treats and seasonal bakes in a truly atmospheric setting.
